commercial trial for preparing lube base oil from iranian crude
Commercial trials with conventional processes, such as furfural extraction, MEX dewaxing and clay treating, were taken for preparing lube base oils from vacuum gas oils (cut 2, cut 3 and cut 4) and deasphalted oil (DAO) of Iranian crude. The results showed that the base oils from cut 2 and DAO can meet the HVI base oil specification of Q/SHR001-95. Besides the viscosity of the base oils from cut 3 and cut 4 were lower than 90, all the other properties can meet the specifications of HVI400 and HVI650 base oils. Base oils from Iranian crude had high sulfur content, low nitrogen content and good oxidation stability. The furfural extraction can reduce the polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon content, the nitrogen content and the carbon residue of DAO. Since the clay treating can significantly reduce the basic nitrogen, the oxidation stability of Iranian lube base oil after clay treating was improved. Compared with Daqing crude, the furfural refined oil yields of Iranian crude were low, and its dewaxed oil yields were high.
